Orgues de grandeur

Duo organ & percussion

A concert that combines the play with perspectives with the sound amplitudes inherent to the grand spaces in which organs traditionally resonate.

The integration of the concept of space in the creative and compositional process opened up new timbres and perspectives for performance.

In the year 2020, organist Antonio Garcia and percussionist Pascal Viglino came together for a concert at the Berner Münster. From this encounter, the desire arose to develop a new program that expands the limited repertoire of works for percussion and organ.

By exploring dimensions of space, playing with the physical magnitudes of the instruments, and the sound spectrum of both the organ and the percussion instruments, the two artists offer the audience a literal sound journey through space and time. Percussionist Pascal Viglino, a specialist in music theater, and organist and multi-instrumentalist Antonio Garcia create an acoustic-musical universe within the space, in which the audience immerses itself with all senses.

Miniature organ pipes for children, gong melodies, echo-amplified sounds, Bach, Arvo Pärt, historical organs, vibraphones - from the heartbeat of a large drum to barely audible breathing sounds, all the way to the imposing sound of all the organ's pulled stops: The "Orgues de Grandeur" project is a unique acoustic and visual experience full of poetry.
